WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FINANCIAL AID

Thursday, October 10th 2018 at 6pm in the BSHS Library.

Get an overview of financial aid and the process that lies ahead. Presented by Andrews University. Open to 11th and 12th grade students and parents. Please RSVP by calling Mrs. Cook in the guidance office at 269-473-0731.

FAFSA FILING WORKSHOP

Thursday, October 25th 2018 at 6pm in BSHS Room 109.

LMC Financial Aid Advisors to assist seniors and parents submit the FAFSA online. This is a working session - bring your materials and you will submit your FAFSA tonight! Please RSVP by calling Mrs. Cook in the guidance office at 269-473-0731.

Things to bring to be able to submit to FAFSA tonight:

Social security numbers for parent(s) and student
Current/valid email addresses for parent(s) and student
Completed 2017 Federal Income Taxes for household

if parents are divorced, only the household tax info of the parents that student primarily lives with is required. Also, if this parent is remarried, you will need to report info for your stepparent
if parents are divorced and student lives with each parent equally then report info from parent who provided more financial support. Also, if this parent is remarried, you will need to report info for your stepparent on the FAFSA

Records of other income in 2017 (unemployment, child support, etc)
Federal Student Aid ID for parent and student

If you do not have your FSA ID, you can apply at FAFSA.gov, then select “The FSA ID” at the bottom of page and follow instructions. This serves as your electronic signature

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

Who? Seniors who plan to attend college the 2019-2020 school year must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to qualify for financial aid.

What is it? Financial Aid is free money to help you pay for college and is based on your 2017 household income. The FAFSA determines if you qualify for the Pell Grant. In addition, many states and colleges use your FAFSA info to determine your eligibility for state and school aid, and some private financial aid providers use your FAFSA info to determine if you qualify for their aid - therefore if even if you think you will not qualify the FAFSA is usually the first step in getting any scholarship or grant.

When do I apply? Beginning OCTOBER 1, 2018 go to www.fafsa.gov to complete your application.

How do I get help? See IMPORTANT DATES above

DEADLINE: March 1st (Michigan).
Your college/university may have an earlier deadline - it is your responsibility to investigate.
